Greenwell Point

Greenwell Point is a working fishing village on the Crookhaven River estuary, fifteen minutes east of Nowra. The trawlers still bring in the catch each day, the oyster leases line the river, and the pelicans meet every boat at the wharf.

There are no traffic lights and no high-rises. Just a foreshore path, a handful of boat ramps and a community that has lived by the water since the 1830s.

Location & lifestyle

Life in Greenwell Point

Oysters come straight from the farms, shucked while you wait. Pelican Rocks has twice been named the best fish and chips in NSW, and the best place to eat them is on the grass by the river. A wide, flat foreshore path runs along the water, made for early walks and kids on scooters.

Launch from one of three boat ramps, kayak the canal around Comerong Island, or head to the Bowling Club or the Greenwell Point Hotel on a Friday night. The local public school sits right in the village. Nowra is fifteen minutes away, Sydney around two hours north.
